We’re retiring!

We hope you had a wonderful Easter holiday.  One thing we love about Easter is the symbolism of new beginnings.  And with that, we too are moving into a new season in our lives.

Today we come to you with our very last blog post we will be posting here on this photography blog.  And we wanted to explain why.

What a beautiful career Stephen and I have had the past 7 years as wedding and portrait photographers.  Not only did our cameras bring our love together, we have been so blessed to travel the world through our cameras and get the honor of documenting other people’s greatest love and life stories.  We have watched people fall in love, get married and have babies through our cameras.  We have made beautiful ongoing friendships with clients, vendors and other photographers who have left such an impact in our lives that we are grateful for.

However, the time has come that we are now hanging up our cameras to pursue other adventures.  We’ve fulfilled all our remaining shoots for the year and over time we have started taking on less shoots in hopes that we can now transition into pursuing other creative dreams that stir our hearts, as well as our hopes to soon start a family. Our priorities and goals in life have changed a lot in recent years, and while traveling the world with our cameras was a beautiful season for us as newlyweds, now we are choosing to step back from the busy lifestyle we had to keep up as photographers to put our energies into other priorities.

As we move into a new chapter, we have recently made the move from Nashville back to our hometown Jacksonville to be back closer to family who we missed so dearly while we were away.  However, though we are now home in Jacksonville, we will no longer be accepting new shooting assignments, but we encourage you to inquire with our dear friend Chloe Austin in the Jacksonville area.  Chloe once interned with us, and is an amazing girl who you can trust to document your memories in our place.

If you are a photographer, something that we put together for you as we bow out of the industry is an online e-course where we have shared with you all our secrets to success over the years that helped us to run a profitable full-time photography business.  We encourage you to check it out at www.shoot2sale.com to learn more how to grow your business to the next level!

Lastly, I will always be a writer at heart…. I have been blogging long before I ever became a photographer, and I can’t imagine stopping now after photography…. My heart needs to write, like my lungs need to breathe, and because of it I will continue to post from time to time about inspiring life stories over on my personal blog at www.scarlettlillian.com.  I will be taking a little bit of a quiet break from blogging for a while to refocus my creativity on other things currently stirring in my heart.  But for those who have followed my writings from blog to blog over the years, I thank you for your continued virtual friendship and all the sweet comments you have left that touch my heart along the way.  And I look forward to continuing our friendship and staying in touch with you over on my personal blog in the years to come!

Below is a collage of some of our favorite travels and adventures as our cameras led us around the world and back. Thank you to those who allowed us to follow our photography dreams and turn them into a beautiful and memorable reality.  Truly.  From the bottom of our hearts.  We are grateful.

Have been following for a while but life(having twins)happened and fell behind in photography world. I still cry every time I see your wedding video (I use it as an example on why to have videography)! Wishing you both the best!

Dear Scarlett and Stephen, I’m happy and sad at the same time. However, we know that HE makes all things new. Y’all will always be in my prayers. Stay blessed. xoxo

Now who will take my maternity pictures when/if I become pregnant and then my family pictures after that?!?

All joking aside, have a great time on your new adventures!

Y’all have been such an inspiration and have had a highly successful career! I’m sure you will be sorely missed in the photog community but it makes me happy that you will still be blogging. May God continue pouring his blessings out on your lives! :)

Jessica & Rick are married!

In our career of shooting weddings, we’ve shot weddings for couples who have known each other a long time.  But at 18 years of knowing each other, I think Jessica and Rick take the award.  From the time they met, it has been a journey for these two as they fell in and out of love, ultimately realizing they can not live without each other anymore.  As they danced to the classic “I Can’t Help Falling In Love With You,” the words perfectly accompanied their First Dance, and their dance in life that lead them to their wedding day 18 years later.  As Jessica said she would tell her kids about how to know when you’ve found the one, “Sometimes you have to realize what you’ve lost to realize what you had.”  And it took some time apart over the years for Jessica and Rick to realize they can’t help falling in love with each other over and over again.

One of the hits of the wedding day was Jessica’s dessert bar at the reception.  Though she is a lawyer for her day job, she has a passion for baking and creating pieces of art out of dessert.  She made all the goodies and candies herself, and the way she decorated the whole table, it truly was a piece of art!

Here’s some of our favorite moments from the day and the awesome vendors we worked with.

Showcased in Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style

One thing we love about being wedding photographers is anytime we get the privilege of seeing our photography published in magazines!  For a few of our Miami weddings, we got to work with an awesome New York based invitation company called East Six.  The photo we took of the invitation design from this Versace Mansion wedding got published in the latest issue of Grace Ormonde’s Wedding Style digital magazine, and it was an awesome addition to our previous publishing in the printed version of the magazine for Jen & Steve’s wedding.  If you are reading this on your iPhone or iPad, you can download the full digital version of the magazine at http://bit.ly/wsm-itunes!

Our photo below is in the lower lefthand corner of this spread below.  For Jen & Steve’s wedding, they created their own personal family crest that they used to print on their wedding invitations.  It looked amazing in gold letterpress on all their printed material for their material!  What a cool family heirloom to have for the generations that follow!

The truth about greatness.

Greatness.  What is it truly?  How do you define it?  What really sets the bar of what greatness is… in your eyes… in others’ eyes.  And do others really get a say in what you know in the depth of your heart is your own greatness you are striving for or have achieved?  Though I don’t quite know the answers to the above, I do know, the greatest things in life do not come easy.  It requires climbing a lot of mountains.  It requires blood, sweat, and tears.  It requires late nights, pushing your self beyond the limits of what you think you are capable of achieving, and stepping outside your comfort zone.

Today we sent out Week 2 of our complimentary email course for photographers called New Year New You!  In this we are sharing many helpful tips and advice on what has helped us achieve a lot of our goals in our photography business the past 7 years, in hopes that it can bless you on your journey as well.  In today’s email, we touched on the topic of how to take your business to the next level, and we included this brilliant quote below my Uncle Chip recently shared with me in a birthday card.  It’s not to late to sign up to receive the last 2 installments of our 4-week email course, as well access the past 2.  If you are interested in getting this free information in your inbox, sign up here!
